My Husband Keeps Up a Lively Correspondence with an Old Female Friend – and I Can’t Help Feeling Jealous

I must admit, Im incredibly fortunate to have a husband. Hes almost the perfect man, at least for me! But, as life would have it, no one is truly flawless. Over time, I realised my husband had one tiny fault: hes excessively sociable, open-hearted, and genuinely likeable. Many might say theres nothing wrong with that, but

Michael is friends with women. While he never hides his correspondence from me and theres nothing remotely suspicious in any of it, I cant say Im entirely at ease with the situation. For years, hes kept in touch with a former colleague. Emily got married ages ago and moved abroad with her husband, but somehow shes never faded from our lives. Even now, her name regularly pops up in our home.

Whenever something unusual or noteworthy happens to him, whether at work or during his travels, two women hear about it straight away: myself, and his old friend. When he faces a major decision, he doesnt just confide in mehe consults Emily, too. Michael talks practically everything over with her. Sometimes, their conversations even brush on topics that concern only us! I cant help but find this distasteful.

Once again, I must stress, hes a wonderful husband. All our household chores are shared equally, and he earns a good salary. We regularly enjoy each others company: Michael takes me to the cinema, to the theatre, and out to lovely restaurants. Yet, I cant understand why he needs to keep up such a close friendship with another woman.

Perhaps my reaction seems foolish, but Ive started to feel jealous. Oddly enough, Im not bothered about any of the other women he works with.

I cant quite put my finger on what he finds lacking at home. What is it about this friendship that he so cherishes?

Reflecting on all of this, Ive begun to realise something important: trust is the true foundation of any relationship. Instead of letting jealousy cloud my mind, I should remember that Michael chooses to come home to me every day. Real love is about giving each other enough space to breathe and trusting that, though friends may come and go, the bond we share truly matters most.
