Two years have passed since my wedding, and from the very beginning, my mother-in-law never accepted me. She believes her son deserves someone better and does everything to break us apart.
At first, I tried ignoring her remarks, but over time, her criticism grew more frequent and hurtful. No matter what I did, it was never good enough for her.
My husband knew what was happening the whole time. Yet he kept telling me it would passthat his mother would eventually accept me and that deep down, she was a good person.
One morning, she stormed into my room and threw a bucket of cold water on me, shouting, *”Wake up, lazybones!”* I jolted awake, stunned, soaked, and utterly bewildered.
When I asked why she did it, she snapped, *”In my house, no one sleeps past noon! Everyone gets up early!”*
I checked the clockit was 6:30 AM on a Sunday. I couldnt stay silent. Trembling with anger, I replied, *”I deserve rest! This is my only day off.”*
She didnt even try to understand. Glaring, she shot back, *”What rights? Under my roof, forget your ‘rights’! My rules apply here!”*
That was the last straw. She crossed every line, and this time, I knew I had to act.
Im sharing the full story and would love your thoughts in the comments. Do you think my mother-in-law had any right to treat me this way?
The rest of my story is in the articlelink in the first comment below.
When I told my husband everything, I was at my breaking point but determined.
I explained how humiliating his mothers behavior was and how it made me feel.
I said I couldnt endure this treatment anymore, especially from someone who shouldve been maternal, not tyrannical.
I wasnt asking him to choose between usonly to take a firm stance.
I needed his support and boundaries with his mother.
He was silent for a while.
Then finally, he looked me in the eye and said, *”Youre right. You and I come first. We should leave and live our own lives.”*
We decided to walk away together and start fresh, far from his mothers toxicity.
