Hey, let me tell you something that happened to me last year. So, I’ve always got along really well with my mother-in-law, Margaret. Ive been married for 17 years now, and my husband and I have two boys. Towards the end of last year, I found out I was pregnant again for the third time. I wanted to share the news with Margaret on her birthday, which is on January 1st, but honestly, I was a bit anxious.
You know, our familys been living in this snug little two-bedroom flat, and we can barely squeeze the four of us in as it is. Plus, I was already 38 at the time, and here, that’s considered quite late for having a baby. In short, I was worried Margaret might be a bit judgemental about the whole thing.
But her birthday rolled around and I pulled myself together.
We went over to her place, and within minutes of arriving, she called me into the kitchen to help her out. Margaret, being the wise woman she is, clocked onto what was going on straight away. I didnt even have to say a word.
Her intuition honestly took me aback, but what surprised me more was how she reacted. She was absolutely thrilled and told me shed always wished for a granddaughter.
And with Margarets blessing, I gave birth to a little girl this summer. For the third time, my mother-in-law stepped up and was a massive help, taking care of the baby and supporting us in every possible way. I was so grateful to her, and she started feeling more like my own mum than just my husband’s.
Winter came round before I knew it, and there we were again at Margarets place celebrating her birthdaynow with our little princess in tow. Margaret was busy baking away in the kitchen, so we decided to get her a proper oven as a present.
The party wound down and we were getting ready to leave, but Margaret stopped me for a momentshe had something she wanted to announce.
She said she was incredibly thankful to us for giving her a granddaughter, and to show her appreciation, she wanted to swap flats. Shed move in with us, but shed give us her two-bedroom flat. I honestly didnt know what to say. Once again, I realised how lucky I was to have such an amazing, wise, and kind mother-in-law, whos not just family but genuinely a dear friendsomething you dont come across every day.
So were all living happily together, really in harmony. I honestly look up to Margaret and hope Ill pick up a bit of her wisdom one day.
