My Mother Wants to Give the Flat and Money My Father Left Me to Her Own Son!

You know, my parents barely lived together. When I was about four, my dad just walked out one day and never came backit was an accident, apparently. The only things he left me were a few old childhood photos of us together, and this decent chunk of money in a bank account under my name, which grew a bit each year.
A few years went by and Mum remarried, then had my little brother. Somehow, I found myself as a bit of a maid for Mum and my stepdad, and ended up as the built-in babysitter for my younger brother.
Watching how Mum treated him sometimes just made me want to sob. You could see she absolutely doted on himkisses goodnight, cuddles, storybooks at bedtime, the latest toys and clothes galore.
Stepdad was the same with his only sonhe loved him to bits. But me? I wasnt really loved by anyone. And it only got worse. The arguments between them started, then the drinking came, then everything just turned chaotic. Of course, I always got the brunt of itI wasnt their favourite, so it was always easier to blame or smack me. A few years after that, the two of them got divorced.
Later on, I moved away to university in Bristol and just left Mum and my brother back at my late fathers old flat. I rarely came backit was too much, and I was working a part-time job as well.
So ages later when I finally made it home, I found a load of young people I didnt even recognise living in the flat. Mum was sleeping on a sofa in the kitchen, and those strangers? Turned out they were my brothers mates. I decided to talk to Mum and my brother about it. But it just got even worse. The next morning, they woke me up and marched me to the bank, made me withdraw the deposit Dad left me because my brother had lost a ridiculous amount of money gambling on cards.
It honestly felt like I was a little girl all over again, just being told what to do and forced to go along with whatever they wanted.
The irony is, Id actually come home to tell them some good newsI was pregnant, and I thought maybe wed finally be a real family, you know? But obviously, it didnt turn out that way. So, I told them to pack their bagstheyd be moving in with Gran in the countryside. The flat was legally mine and I wasnt about to let them, or anyone else, walk all over me any longer.
Mum and my brother just laughed at me, as if it was all one big joke. That only made me more certain I was right. I called the police, who helped them pack up and leave the place. Then, my fiancé and I got the locks changed and were making plans to sell the flat and buy a new home for our family somewhere else, maybe in Bath. Oh, and I switched all my bank details after Mum tried to get her hands on the money again.
I honestly think Dad would be proud of mehe always wanted the best for me, and I finally stood up for myself.
