After that, I sent her a message asking, Do we know each other?
She replied, Ive heard youve gotten married, but I still love you.
She was an old friend from years past, looking remarkably beautiful in her photograph.
I closed the chat window and glanced at my wife, who was resting quietly after a long day at work. As I looked at her, I was struck by how safe and comfortable she seemed, sleeping soundly in our new home together.
She was far from her parents’ house, where she used to spend every waking hour surrounded by family. Whenever she was upset or sad, her mother was there, always ready to comfort her. Her brother or sister would crack jokes and bring a smile to her face. Her father would return home with little gifts, anything she fancied, and through it all, she placed so much trust in me now.
These thoughts filled my mind, so I picked up my phone and pressed BLOCK.
I turned back towards her and drifted off to sleep at her side.
I am a man, not a child. I pledged my faith to her, and I will honour that vow. I will strive endlessly to be the sort of man who never betrays his wife or tears his family apart.
