She Cheated on Her Husband Just Once Before the Wedding: He Called Her Fat and Said She Wouldn’t Fit into Her Bridal Gown.

Emily betrayed her husband just once, before their wedding. He called her fat and said she wouldnt fit into her wedding dress. Hurt, she went out with friends to a nightclub in London, drank too much, and woke up in an unfamiliar flat beside a handsome blue-eyed man. The shame was unbearable! She never told Michael, forgave his insults, and even started a diet. She quit drinkingeasy enough once she discovered she was pregnant.

Their daughter arrived right on time, a beautiful girl with blue eyes, and Michael adored her. For five years, Emily told herself everything was fineher daughter had blue eyes because her grandfather did. And the curls? No big deal. She tried hard to forget the curly-haired man whose name she couldnt recall. But deep down, her mothers intuition whispered that the girl wasnt Michaels. Maybe thats why she tolerated his late nights, work trips, and constant critiques of her cooking and looks. For their daughter, family mattered: she loved her dad, and what man doesnt stray?

“Stick with itwhere else would you go?” her mother said. “You know theres no space at mine. Grans bedridden, your brothers moved his fiancée inwhere would I put you all? I warned you: never put the house in your mother-in-laws name. Now look at you!”

Emily endured. But it didnt matterone day, Michael left. Hed met someone else, he said, even cried, promising hed always be Lucys father but couldnt fight his feelings. His mother, who doted on her granddaughter, remarked after the divorce:

“Get a paternity test. You might be paying child support for nothing!”

Emily frozeshe thought she was the only one with doubts. Turns out, she wasnt.

“Are you mad?” Michael snapped. “Lucys mine. Anyone can see that.”

Maybe his mother was right. A year after the divorce, Emily landed in hospital with appendicitis and locked eyes with a familiar face over a surgical mask. Her doubts vanished.

“Sorry, have we met before?” the surgeon asked.

Emily shook her head wildly, praying he wouldnt remember. But he did. The next day, during his rounds, he teased, “Hope you wont run off as fast as last time.”

She flushed scarlet and vowed to leave ASAP. What she didnt expect was Thomasover those hospital daysmaking her want to stay.

She didnt mention Lucy was his. Just hinted she had a daughter.

Thomas figured it out the first time he saw her. Nervous, he bought a doll and grilled Emily on how to act.

“Listen,” he began, “when I was little, my mum fell for another man. My sister never accepted him, and in the end, she drove him away. I dont want that. I want to be Lucys second dad.”

Emilys heart sank. When he saw Lucyfreezing for a split second before shooting her a puzzled lookshe knew: he understood.

“Whats the difference?” she thought. “Id have to tell him eventually.”

Bracing for shouts and blame, she was stunned when Thomas pulled her close and whispered, “What a gorgeous miracle.”

At first, Lucy seemed fine with Thomas. But when Emily gently asked if he could move in, the girl burst into tears. “I thought Daddy was coming back! Let Thomas live somewhere else.”

Emily coaxed her, but Thomas was crushed. “Shes my daughter! They need to know!”

“Michael couldnt handle it. Neither could Lucy. To her, hes her father. To him, shes his only childapparently his new wife cant have kids. His mother told me.”

Resentful Thomas, sulky LucyEmily juggled peace in their patchwork family. Rules helped: she took Lucy to see Michael (keeping the men apart), never left her alone with Thomas (theyd argue), and even prepped cards on Mothers Day so Lucy wouldnt slip up.

Then Emily got pregnant againand panicked. What if this baby looked just like Lucy? What if Michael figured it out? What if Lucy grew jealous? Worse, what if Thomas spilled the truth while she was in labour?

They planned for her mum to watch Lucy. But the day before delivery, her mum was hospitalised with gallstones. Her stepdad refused another child; her brother and his wife worked full-time. Desperate, Emily tried Michaelbut he was abroad. Leaving Lucy with her mother-in-law? No.

“Cant I look after my own daughter?” Thomas bristled.

The birth was rougha C-section, then neonatal jaundice kept Emily in hospital longer. At home, tension simmered. Thomas claimed all was well, but Lucy wouldnt speak to her. “Hes told her,” Emily fretted.

Neighbours urged honesty: “The truth always comes out. Youll pay for these lies.” Steeled, she called Michael.

“I need to confess something.”

“What?”

A long pause. “About Lucy…”

“What about her?”

“Shes… your mates daughter. Ive known for years.”

“He told you?”

“I knew before he did. When she was one, I got tested. They told me during my army medicalI cant have kids. Kept it quiet, hoped for a miracle. Then I doubted. My mum did too. So I checked.”

“But… why…?”

Emily couldnt grasp why hed hid it.

“What could I do?” he shot back. “Shes blameless! And dont you tell her! I played along so I wouldnt lose her.”

It was party day!

Discharged from hospital, Emily eyed her daughter and husband warily. They were acting oddexchanging glances, silent.

“Howd you manage without me?” she asked once the baby slept and Lucy doodled.

“Brilliant! You always fuss. We sorted it fine.”

“You told her?”

“Course not! You said no.”

“Then whys she so quiet?”

Thomas smirked. “Ask her.”

Lucys tongue poked out as she coloured fiercely. Emily peered over her shoulder. The drawing showed three adults and two kids.

“Whos this?”

“Cant you tell? You, Daddy, Thomas, me, and baby Jack.”

“Lovely.”

“Yeah. Mum… can someone have two dads?”

Her stomach dropped. *He told her.*

“Well… sometimes,” she hedged.

“So can I call Thomas Daddy too? Hes nice. We built a LEGO castle and saw fish. The shop manfunny granddad in a capasked what my dad does. I didnt know if he meant Thomas, so I said hes a doctor. Its cool having a doctor dad. I asked Thomas already, but wanted to check with you.”

Emilys throat tightened. Shed trapped herself. Michael forgave her. Thomas would too. But if Lucy ever learned the truth… To confess or live in fear? She hugged her daughter.

“Of course you can. Thomas will love that. But dont tell Daddy…”
