Son Tells Dad: “I’m Filing for Divorce—I’m Fed Up! My Wife’s Lazy, How Long Can I Keep Digging My Own Grave?”

James stormed into the dim kitchen where his father, George, was polishing a chipped teacup.
Im filing for divorce. Ive had enough! My wife, Emma, is lazy. How many more chores am I supposed to do on my own?
Georges eyes softened, his voice low but steady.
Forgive me, son.
James snapped, Forgive you for what?
George sighed, For not always being kind to your mother. Thats my fault, and it left a bitter corner in you that now whispers about separation.
James blinked, What, you dont want us to split?
George leaned forward, urgency in his tone. No, dont walk away. Never even think of it.
James clenched his fists. Should I endure this forever?
George shook his head. Youre not tolerating her, youre tolerating your own harshness toward her. Change yourself and the world around you will shift.
James asked, How do I change?

George gestured toward Emma, who was at the window, sunlight catching her hair. Look at your wife the way the Good Lord intended. Shes a gift, your joy, your companion, the mother of your children. Shes a fragile vessel God placed in your hands treat her gently, with care, with reverence. Everything else is trivial.
He paused, his voice thick with memory. If she cant do something today, shell learn. You dont know everything either, but you must try. When she falters, cover her weakness with your strength and love. If she lacks knowledge, sit with her over a cup of tea in the evening and whisper what you know, holding her shoulders tenderly. Your path is yours alone, your love yours alone. Anyone who plants hatred in your heart is an enemy of your home even if its your own mother, your brother, or your best mate. Do not judge them; forgive them. Let each understand that for Emma, for your love, you would die without a second thought, yet you would never let a cruel word touch your family.

Jamess shoulders slumped. Did you and Mum ever think about divorcing?
George chuckled, a rueful smile forming. We fought fiercely without any counsellors. Pride made us fools. Your life is different. No one drives you from Gods grace. Ask Him for wisdom, give ground to each other, mourn together, lift each other up. Love, if you think you dont know it, will grow. Its true majesty, its worth, youll only see in old age when you hold Emma close at night, no words needed.

Silence settled like a heavy curtain. For the first time in years, James looked at Emma not as a problem but as a woman bruised by fatigue, with her own frailties, yearning for warmth and support. Shame washed over him he had only ever seen her flaws, never the light that once sparkled in her eyes beside his.

That night, after the children were asleep, James returned to the bedroom without a single accusation. He stepped up, wrapped his arms around Emma, and whispered hoarsely,
Im sorry. I never saw the greatest gift in my life standing before me.

Emmas breath caught; a tiny flame flickered in her gaze the same spark that had first bound their hearts. No grand speech was needed. The room was filled with quiet, a touch, and the certainty that they were still together.

True love never truly dies; it merely lies beneath layers of hurt and daily worries. Feed it with attention, patience, and tenderness, and it awakens, stronger than ever before.
