Stranger’s Call: A Girl’s Mysterious Escape

Passersby spotted a small child on the street and called the police. The little girl told the officer that voices had told her to leave, pointing to a house at the end of the road.

At first, no one knew where she’d come from. There she stood—six years old, in a frilly white dress, like she’d just stepped out of a birthday party.

People stopped. Someone offered her water; another suggested calling social services. She looked well cared for, nothing like a runaway. But she stayed silent—until she whispered,

“I heard voices.”

That got everyone’s attention. Someone dialled 999.

Fifteen minutes later, a weary-looking sergeant arrived. He crouched beside her, keeping his tone gentle.

“Hey there. What’s your name? Where are your parents? Why are you out here alone?”

The girl met his eyes and replied softly,

“The voices told me to leave home.”

“What voices, love?”

The officer paled when he heard what came next.

“I didn’t see them. I was behind the door… First, there was a bang. Then the voices said, ‘Run. Or you’re next.’”

She paused, then asked innocently,

“Officer… what does ‘next’ mean?”

A chill ran down his spine.

“Where do you live?” he asked, straining to stay calm.

She pointed down the street to a tidy terraced house, curtains drawn.

The sergeant pushed the ajar door open. He barely made it past the hallway before freezing.

In the living room, a woman lay motionless—no pulse, no breath. No explanation needed.

Later, it came out: The girl’s father, in a fit of rage, had murdered his wife. Hearing her scream, the child had run to the bedroom door—but didn’t enter. That’s when her father’s voice, ragged with panic, hissed:

“Go. Get out. Now.”

He’d tried to spare her the sight. He didn’t realise she’d feel it anyway.

So she ran. Alone. In her white party dress. Straight into the arms of strangers who’d listen.

And she escaped—from the one man who should’ve kept her safe.
