The most painful moment for me in 2025 was discovering my husband was having an affair and that my brother, my cousin, and my father had known all along.
Wed been married for eleven years. The woman with whom my husband had an affair was the secretary at the firm where my brother works. Their romance began after my brother introduced them it wasnt chance. They kept bumping into each other at the office, during meetings, at business parties, and at various social gatherings where my husband was present. My cousin saw them in those circles as well. The whole lot knew one another. They saw each other regularly.
For months, my husband carried on as if nothing was amiss, living with me like life was perfectly ordinary. I attended family dinners, chatted with my brother, cousin, and father, completely unaware that all three of them knew about my husbands affair. Not a single one of them breathed a word. Nobody warned me. No one so much as tried to prepare me for what had been happening behind my back.
When I finally learned the truth in October, I confronted my husband first. He admitted everything. I then spoke to my brother, asking outright if he knew. He said yes. I asked how long. For some months now, he replied. Why didnt you tell me? I pressed. He shrugged, saying it wasnt his business, that it was a matter for married couples, and that men simply dont talk about things like that.
I then approached my cousin, who admitted hed seen behaviour, texts, and signals that made it obvious what was going on. I asked why he hadnt warned me either. He said he didnt want to cause trouble and that it wasnt his place to interfere in someone elses marriage.
Finally, I went to my father. I asked if hed known. Yes, he said. For how long? A good while. Why hadn’t he told me? He explained that he didnt want any arguments, that things like this ought to be sorted between husband and wife, and that he didnt feel he should get involved. Truthfully, all three gave me more or less the same reasons.
After that, I moved out of the house, which is now up for sale. There were no public rows, no scenes because I will not lower myself for anyone. The woman kept working at my brothers firm. My brother, cousin, and father continued on friendly terms with both my husband and her.
When Christmas and New Year came around, my mother invited me to spend the holidays at their home; my brother, cousin, and father would all be there. I told her I couldnt. I tried to explain that I simply couldnt sit at a table with people who had known about the affair and chose to remain silent. They celebrated together. I was absent for both occasions.
Since October, I havent spoken to any of the three. I dont believe forgiveness is possible.
