My wife, our kids and I were on holiday in England, and one day we found ourselves in a rather uncomfortable situation.
We’d booked a guided coach tour that took us to a few hardtoreach attractions, and we set aside a whole day for it. We bought four tickets so each of us would have our own seat. As we settled in, a plump lady with a baby in a pram boarded the bus. She was about the same size as us, and they squeezed between the rows. The woman tried to sit on the rear seat, only to discover that her son, little Oliver, wouldn’t fit. She got up and started looking for another free spot for the child.
She glanced at our skinny boys, Tom and Harry, and decided to put her boy next to them.
My husband stepped in and told her wed paid for those seats, so there was no reason to push the children around. The lady didnt back down; she even began arguing with the tour guide.
She tried to convince us that we ought to make room for others. Why should we do that? She suggested we abandon the tour and hand our tickets back. Even some of the other tourists joined in, calling us selfish and snapping photos.
Eventually the kids shifted a bit, hoping the tour could continue while the driver waited for the dispute to settle. The atmosphere was clearly ruined.
I wondered: were we in the right? Why should my children have to travel in cramped conditions when Id bought them tickets? What do you think?
