Waking in the Dead of Night, Laura Felt an Empty Space Beside Her. Confused, She Reached Out, Hoping to Feel the Familiar Warmth of Her Husband, Stephen.

Waking in the dead of night, Eleanor felt the cold emptiness beside her. Disoriented, she reached out, hoping to find the familiar warmth of her husband, William.

But sleep didnt return, and William hadnt come back to bed for nearly fifteen minutes. Her heart hammered anxiously as she sat up, staring into the dark room. What if something had happened? Was he unwell?

She tried to calm herself, reasoning that perhaps William had simply woken from insomnia and was tending to work. Yet unease clung to her like a shadow.

Unwilling to fret needlessly, Eleanor slipped from bed and tiptoed toward the kitchen, her bare feet silent on the hardwood. A few steps away, she froze.

Williams voice drifted from the kitchen. He was on the phonespeaker loud enough for her to hear the other person. A woman.

*Yes, darling,* he murmured, anticipation lacing his words. *Ive already booked the tickets to Greece. Well have an unforgettable time together. No one will ever know.*

The floor seemed to vanish beneath her. Her world shattered in an instant. Each word cut like glass, slicing through years of trust.

So many years togetherso many plans, joys, and sorrows shared side by side. How could he?

Eleanor retreated to the bedroom. In the suffocating dark, tears burned down her cheeks. Her heart ached, a storm of fury, betrayal, and bitter disappointment raging inside her.

Finally, resolve hardened in her chest. She rose, strode to the wardrobe, and began packing Williams things into a suitcase.

When he stepped into the bedroom, his face twisted in confusion. *Whats going on?*

She met his gaze, her eyes cold and steady. *I packed your suitcase.* Her voice was eerily calm. *So you can take it with you to Greece.*

*What are you talking about?* He forced a nervous laugh.

*Dont pretend, William. I heard your call in the kitchen.*

His hands trembled, his mouth openingbut she cut him off. *Pack the rest yourself. Take the case now and go. To a hotel, wherever. And after your little *holiday*, dont bother coming back.*

That night, Eleanors life changed forever.

As the door clicked shut behind him, she lay back in bed, knowing sleep wouldnt come. But one thought anchored her: *Everything will be different now.* No more illusions. No more pain.

She was free.

So, what do you think? Did she do the right thing? Or should she have stayed silent? Share your thoughts below!
