We Decided That Only We Should Spoil Their Children, and That’s Final.

**Diary Entry**

Ive been married to William for nearly eight years now. Hes a kind mangenerous, always ready to lend a hand. But theres one problem: his sister, Margaret. A woman with boundless imagination and an uncanny ability to twist any innocent remark into a veiled request for an expensive gift.

She never says things outright. Her words always sound like harmless musings:
*The children are desperate to see that new animated film, but the tickets are so pricey these days.* And just like that, William would book the cinema, take the kids, and buy them popcorn combos.

*Such lovely weather,* shed sigh, *but youre just staying indoors. Why not take them to the fair?* And guess who ended up accompanying her children? Us, of course. And footing the bill every time.

I dont do well with subtlety. Never have. I prefer honesty. If you need somethingask. Say it plainly. Dont dance around it pretending you dont want anything.

But William always jumped at her *suggestions.* He adored his niece and nephew. But the way he spoiled them was beyond reason. Bikes, gadgets, day tripsit all became routine. One look from Margaret, and hed rush to fulfill her unspoken demands.

Recently, it was little Olivers birthdayMargarets son. Wed already given him a top-of-the-range bicycle, which cost us a pretty penny. We thought it was more than enough. But to Margaret, a *bike* was nothing. In her eyes, the boy simply *had* to go on a European holiday. And not alonewith her, naturally. A child couldnt possibly travel solo!

In Margarets world, it sounded like this: *Olivers been dreaming of Paris. His eyes light up whenever its mentioned*

But this time, William brought him a cake and a monogrammed cushion instead of plane tickets. I was working that day, so he went alone. And as youd expect, his sister was livid.

Margaret didnt give up. Her requests only grew more extravagant over the years. William never seemed to mind. We didnt have children of our own, so he poured all his fatherly energy into his niece and nephew. Maybe he needed an outlet for it.

Then came the news wed waited for: I was pregnant. When I told William, he cried with joy, kissed my belly, and couldnt stop smiling. Hed dreamed of this for years. But then Margaret struck again.

This time, it was a spring holiday in Prague. With the kids, of course. For the first time, William refused. He said everything now had to go toward our own family. And thats when his sister erupted.

The next day, she called me, screaming accusations: *How dare you?! You planned this just to take away the only man who ever cared for my children!*

I hung up without a word.

Then came the next act. The kids waited outside Williams office with handmade cards: *Uncle, please dont abandon us* *Why do you need your own child when you already have us?*

Someone had clearly coached them. And that *someone* was painfully obvious.

William came home, sat on the sofa, stared at those cards and something inside him broke.

*Ive been such a fool,* he muttered. *All these years, falling for it. The boilers broken, I cant afford a winter coat, Dad leftuncle, help us. Shes always used the kids to manipulate me. And I let her.*

Then, he pulled out a notepad and started writing. Every bike, every phone, every school trip, every theatre tickethe tallied it all up. The total? A staggering sum.

The finale was pure Margaret.

She marched into our house, stood in the hallway like she owned the place, and said: *Since youre having your own child now, why not do one last good deed? Give us the car. Not for meIm not selfish. Just to take the kids*

William handed her the notepad without a word. *Thats what you owe. Pay it back. Youve got six months. After that? Court.*

She slammed the door so hard the coat rack toppled over.

Then came the flood of messages. Margarets friends bombarded me on social media, saying Id destroyed the sacred bond between uncle and niece, that the children were *abandoned and starving* while their mother was *in despair.*

But I didnt waver.

Margaret owns two flatsone left by her ex-husband, the other signed over by William, who gave up his inheritance for her. She gets child support. Shes not poor. Shes just used to getting everything handed to her. And now? Thats over.

Were having a baby. And for the first time, William has a real familyno manipulation, no drama, no theatrics. And you know what? I think this is just the beginning
