While out for a stroll, a young girl spotted a wild goose by the lake seemingly trying to ask for help from passersby.

So the other day I was out for a stroll by Windermere and I saw this wild goose waddling by the water like it was trying to ask people for help. Everyone else was keeping their distance, convinced it might nip them, so they just backed away. I couldnt just stand there and watch, so I walked over and tried to feed it, but it turned out the bird wasnt after food at all it seemed to be beckoning me to follow it.

With a bit of courage I slipped behind the goose, and it led me down a little path along the shore. There, among the stones, I spotted a gosling that had gotten stuck. Its parents were swimming around, calling for it, looking panicked. I gently scooped the little one up and placed it back with the duo. The gosling reunited with its mum and dad, and the family paddled off together.

A bit later the geese came back, not to peck, but to thank me. From that day on they started hanging around my garden. I never minded the company Id throw them bits of corn and make sure they were safe every day.

Over time I realised how important it is to look out for the ones who usually go unheard. The more days passed, the closer I felt to those feathered friends. They became part of my routine in the mornings theyd greet me with cheerful honks, at night theyd guide me to the back door, and even left their goslings in my care when they went off to find food.

People stopped being scared of the geese; actually, theyd pop over just to see this odd friendship between a girl and a wild flock. That simple meeting by the lake didnt just save a little goslings life it filled my own with kindness, confidence and a quiet happiness.

And every time I walk past Windermere now, I swear the breeze seems to whisper a cheerful thanks just for me.
