‘You Had a Baby at Almost 50! What Were You Thinking?’ – My Family Scolded Me Over the Phone.

You had a baby at nearly fifty! What were you even thinking? my family scolded over the phone.

Im 46. A month ago, I gave birth to twinsa little boy named Arthur and a girl called Eleanor. Words cant describe what I feel when I look at them. Happiness, joy, tears, warmth swelling inside meso much it nearly bursts.

Yet neither my mother nor my sister came to the hospital when I was discharged. My husbands relatives ignored the birth too. All because of our age.

I never thought about children, honestly. I was young, living carefreeclubbing, dancing, drinking cocktails. What else does a girl need to be happy? Flirtations, laughter, endless nights out. My soul sang with joy.

Then, at 22, I met Oliver. Handsome, bearded, glasses, with a sharp wit. Women chased him, but he chose *me*. I wont lieit did wonders for my confidence. Oliver had a flat, a car, a family business. His parents owned several clothing shops in Manchester, making good money.

I thought Id found my knight in shining armour. Oliver was my ticket to an easy life. I dreamed of a weddinga stunning dress, a honeymoon in Spain.

But for him, it was never serious. I lived in his flat for just a month before he changed the locks and dumped my things outsidewhile I was getting my nails done! His only explanation? *Were from different worlds. Youre not the one.* Like I was some mismatched shoe!

The breakup destroyed me. I lost two stone, wandered like a ghost. My hair fell outI wore wigs, hats. My health crumbled. The sudden weight loss wrecked my body. I had surgeries, took pills, even tried herbal nonsense. Nothing worked.

So I threw myself into work. Id always loved nails, so I trained as a manicurist. Luckily, clients came fast, paid well. I got a loan, bought a two-bed flat. Saved up for a car. By 33, Id opened my own salon. Had a team of girls working under me.

Then, two years ago, I met Daniel. He worked nearby, popped in once to break a £20 note. And just like that, I fell in love again. We moved in fast, married quicker. And yeswe wanted children.

Nothing happened. Our age was against us. So I turned to IVF. I prayed every night, begging God for a baby, promising to be the best mother.

And He listened. I gave birth to two healthy babiesan easy delivery, no complications.

*Are you mad? Having kids at your age? Did you even think this through?* my mother spat over the phone.

*Good Lord, Ill be a grandmother soon, and youre playing mum now? Youre too old for this!* my sister shrieked.

Not a single relative supported us. So outside the hospital, only Daniel and a photographer waited. We took a few keepsake pictures and drove home.

The babies are a month old now. My mother wont visit. My sister refuses. They say Ive shamed themthat a woman my age has no right to be a mother.

But is it so wrong to want a family? Is that really a sin?
