I’m Loving This Home—Son, Transfer It to Me! Mother-in-Law Claims My Property

**Emily’s Diary – 12th June**

Emily froze when she heard her mother-in-law’s words. Her fingers went slack, and the tray clattered to the veranda floor with a deafening crash. Shards of glass scattered in every direction.

William and Margaret Hartwell spun around sharply. Fear flashed across Margaret’s face before it was replaced by feigned concern.

“Oh, darling!” she cried, jumping up. “Are you hurt? Let me help!”
“Don’t come near me,” Emily held up a hand. “I heard everything.”

She turned her burning gaze to her husband. William sat with slumped shoulders, his head bowed, fingers nervously twisting the tablecloth.

“William,” Emily’s voice trembled with tension. “Do you have something to say?”
“Emily, love, you misunderstood!” Margaret babbled. “We were only talking—”
“I wasn’t speaking to you,” Emily cut her off sharply. “William?”

A heavy silence settled in.

“Son,” Margaret tried again, stepping closer and resting a hand on William’s shoulder. “You wouldn’t abandon your own mother, would you?”

William slowly lifted his head. His eyes met Emily’s—pain and deep shame written in them.

“Mum,” he said quietly but firmly. “I love you. You’re my mother, and I’ll always care for you.”

A triumphant smirk played on Margaret’s lips as she shot a victorious glance at her daughter-in-law. But William stood and continued, “But I love Emily more. And I won’t do anything to hurt her.”

The smirk slid off Margaret’s face.

“What are you saying, son?” she whispered.
“I’m saying you should pack your things and leave,” William stated firmly. “And don’t come back until you apologise to Emily and understand that nothing matters more than the family I’ve built.”
“Family?!” Margaret’s eyes flared with anger. “And what am I? The woman who raised you!”
“Mum,” William shook his head. “You tried to make me deceive my own wife, to take her home from her. And this isn’t the first time you’ve manipulated me.”
“She’s changed you!” Margaret shrieked, pointing at Emily. “Turned my son against me! Curse you!”
“Enough,” William raised his voice, and his mother fell silent. “I won’t listen to this anymore. Either you apologise, or you leave now.”

Her lips trembled.
“You’re choosing her?” she choked out. “Pushing your own mother onto the streets?”
“You have your own home, Mum,” William said wearily. “And I’ll still support you financially, as I always have. But you’re not welcome here.”

With a sob, Margaret stormed into the house, and soon, the slam of the front door echoed through the air. Emily and William stood alone on the veranda amidst the wreckage.

“Forgive me,” William murmured, stepping toward her. “I should never have stayed silent. I shouldn’t have even entertained her.”
“Why didn’t you tell me?” Emily asked softly. “You’ve been so distant.”
“She wanted me to talk to you about selling the house,” he admitted. “Said she was lonely, that it was too big for just us. I didn’t know how to bring it up. Then she came here, pressuring me—saying if you refused, we’d have to take matters into our own hands.”
“You truly chose me over her?” Emily turned to face him.
“I love her,” William said simply. “But what she asked—that wasn’t love, it was selfishness. And I won’t be part of it.”

Emily stepped into his arms, letting him hold her.

The next morning, Margaret left without a word. But peace didn’t return—calls started pouring in.
“Mum, my decision won’t change,” William repeated into the phone. “I’m not abandoning you. But I won’t abandon Emily either.”

Gradually, the calls stopped. William stood firm. One evening, as they sipped tea on the veranda, he smiled—for the first time in ages—open and genuine.
“You know,” he said, looking at Emily, “I think we’ve made it.”
Emily nodded, squeezing his hand. The house was becoming their sanctuary again.
