No One Will Ever Forget My Son’s Wedding – Two Secrets Were Revealed at the Ceremony

My son married recently. Before the wedding, of course, he brought his girlfriend to meet us a few times, and we all took a real liking to her. She was so polite, modest, beautiful, and bright. We were genuinely happy for our son and looked forward with great excitement to their big day.
On their wedding day, my new daughter-in-law wore her hair up, so her ears were clearly visible. She looked stunning, and I didn’t think much of it at first. But then, I noticed something that made my heart stopa small mole on her right ear, identical to the one my own missing daughter had. A chill ran through me, and I knew I had to find out more.
I pulled myself together and, during a quiet moment, gently asked her, Darling, forgive me for asking something so personal, but were you adopted, by any chance?
She seemed surprised. No, why? she replied, before standing up and going off to dance.
Her mother, who had been sitting nearby, overheard our conversation and gave me a meaningful look, nodding in confirmation. It was clear there was no longer a reason to hide the truth. The girls parents confessed that they had in fact adopted her when she was very little.
As it turned out, one day many years ago, theyd been driving through the countryside when they saw a small girl sitting all alone by the side of the lane, quietly sobbing. After many years of failed attempts to have a childfifteen, in factthe couples hearts had gone out to her, and without a second thought, they decided to take her home. To ease their own sorrow, they kept her and told no one.
That very same year, I lost my own daughter. We were at the market in London and, for just an instant, I looked away. In that crowded city, with so many people bustling about, my little girl was gonevanished like a needle in a haystack. I searched for a long time, but after endless fruitless efforts, despair set in and hope slipped away from me.
And now, after all this time, my son had married hermy own dearly missed child. Of all the millions living in England, he chose her. Imagine that! Against all odds, he found her.
At first, everything seemed tangled and overwhelming, and the girls parents were deeply worried. They regretted that their daughter and my son might not have the family life theyd dreamed of. But I reassured them. After losing my daughter, I wanted to bring some peace to my heart and perhaps do a little good in the world. So I went to an orphanage in Oxford and brought home a boy. Truth be told, it felt as if hed chosen me rather than the other way around. It helped us both heal, even just a bit.
That night, it felt as if two hidden storiesof two women who loved their children deeplycame to light.
As the wedding party learned what had happened, they couldnt stop talking about it. It seemed nothing short of a miracle.
Was it simply chance, or was it fate? I find myself wondering even now.
